How it works
Tamper-proof via Merkle chain
The GoBD-compliant audit security of the Souvera Mail Archive is based on a cryptographic process – simple in principle, unassailable in practice. This is how daily emails become a forgery-proof archive chain.
Chain – the ledger
Every day, all archived emails are packed into a mathematical block. The hash (fingerprint) of the previous day's block flows into today's block – an unbreakable chain. No email can be changed retroactively without invalidating all subsequent blocks.
Sealing – the lock
Once a day, the chain is automatically sealed: the daily block is then immutably fixed. Before sealing, today's emails are still in flight – afterwards, permanently committed.
Public key – the witness
Every sealing is signed with an Ed25519 key pair. The public key is publicly visible – anyone can verify whether a daily block was genuinely sealed by the archive agent. The private key remains secret.
The archive agent runs automatically in the background – no manual intervention needed.
